In a significant development the National President of the BJP Amit Shah has appointed Temjen Imna Along, presently a Minister of Higher Education & Technical Education in the Neiphiu Rio led PDA Alliance government, as the new President of the BJP Nagaland State unit.
The appointment of Temjen Imna Along was confirmed through the official website of the BJP party.
Sources informed The Naga Republic that trouble was brewing within the Nagaland BJP State unit with some party officials and elected MLAs favouring a change at the top. It was also informed that this section of the BJP had written a letter to the National President Amit Shah seeking a change of guard.
However another source cautioned that the step to remove the Visasolie Lhoungu as party President was ill timed and hasty. The source maintained that the State unit President should have been allowed to complete his term and not unceremoniously removed.
“This is setting a bad precedent for the BJP in Nagaland. Whatever the complaints may be there against the President, the party should not have acted in haste”, said the source while pointing out that ‘one person alone cannot solve the problems in the party’.
