Homeland Village Students’ Union (Niuland) celebrates golden jubilee
Niuland, January 12 (MExN): Nagaland Minister PHED & Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi on Saturday said, “the days of backdoor political appointments in Nagaland are over, thanks to the vigilance of the educated and alert young Naga populace.” He credited this awareness with fostering a culture of free and fair appointments within the state government, reducing the influence of politicians in such processes.
He was addressing the Homeland Village Students’ Union (Niuland) golden jubilee celebration held under the theme “Celebrating our legacy, shaping our future” on January 11. The Minister was accompanied by SDO (C) Niuland, ADCP, Niuland and EAC Aghunqa Hq (Niuland) and host of other officials and dignitaries, stated a press release received here.
Earlier, rhe Minister in his speech highlighted the milestone as a testament to the village’s maturity and achievements across various fields, including academics, sports, arts, music, and crafts.
However, the Minister posed a thought-provoking question to the younger generation, urging them to introspect on whether they have truly matured alongside these advancements, stated a press release.
Zhimomi expressed concern over the modern generation’s tendency to seek shortcuts, describing it as a “copy-paste culture” fueled by the craze for overnight success. He emphasised that the era of one-night preparations has become obsolete, encouraging the youth to adopt a more disciplined and sustained approach to their pursuits.
The Minister also lamented that many degree holders have become complacent, urging them to rise above laziness.
He highlighted initiatives like Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Start-Up India programme, designed to combat unemployment and foster entrepreneurship. Zhimomi encouraged the youth to seize such opportunities and channel their energy toward innovation and self-reliance.
Calling for humility and mutual respect, Zhimomi urged students to value one another’s contributions while remaining grounded in their pursuit of success. He appealed to church bodies to guide and mentor the youth in these efforts.
“Naga society is well-educated, and our youth represent the most significant asset for our future. They must adopt a mindset of unity and cooperation to drive all-round development,” Zhimomi remarked.
The Minister concluded with a clarion call to the young generation to work collaboratively for the betterment of society, emphasizing their critical role in shaping Nagaland’s progress.
Earlier, the programme started with an invocation by Twili K Jakha, A short speech was delivered by Kabo G Zhimomi, President WSSU, and Bovika Chishi, President ASSU, Cultural song by women and men folks and Jubilee Choir and vote of thanks delivered by Anguvi Yeptho, President HVSU.
