The Special National Integration Camp (SNIC) for NCC cadets commenced today at the 24 Assam Rifles Camp in Wokha, with nearly 600 cadets and staff from across the country in attendance. Organised by the 1 Nagaland NCC Battalion under the direction of the Kohima NCC Group Headquarters and the NCC Directorate of North East Region (NER), the camp aims to promote national integration by providing a platform for meaningful interaction among cadets from various parts of India.
Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan, was the Chief Guest at the inauguration ceremony. In his address, the Governor praised the initiative, which has brought together 560 cadets and staff from 17 NCC Directorates across the nation to Nagaland. He highlighted the core message of the camp, encapsulated in the slogan “Unity in Diversity”, and spoke of the importance of national unity amidst India’s rich diversity of languages, cultures, and traditions.
Emphasising the significance of the event, the Governor described the cadets as exemplars of discipline, leadership, and commitment to national service—qualities that are essential for the future prosperity and peace of the nation. He also acknowledged the opportunity the camp provides for participants to experience the unique culture of the North East, fostering greater understanding and tolerance among the youth.
The event was also attended by Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor to the Government of Nagaland, MLA, and Chairman of the District Planning Board of Wokha; Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, Special Guest of Honour; and several local dignitaries, including Lotha Eloe Hoho Chairman Thungbeni Ngullie, Lotha Hoho Chairman Mhondamo Ovung, and Achumbemo Kikon MLA. The District Commissioner of Wokha, Vineet Kumar IAS, and Superintendent of Police, Rhovysie Nyui, were present as Chief Special Invitees.
Brigadier Antony Grossy, Deputy Director General of the NCC NER Directorate, and Brigadiers S P Mainkar and Shiva Kant Shukla, Group Commander of Kohima NCC Group and Commander of the 6 Sector Assam Rifles respectively, welcomed the Governor at the camp. The Governor was greeted with a Guard of Honour by the NCC cadets, after which he formally inaugurated the camp by lighting the auspicious lamp.
During his interaction with the cadets and staff over tea, the Governor urged the young participants to become leaders of the “Amrit Kaal”, contributing actively to India’s drive for self-reliance, national development, and the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). To commemorate the occasion, the Governor presented a Silver Salver to the conducting unit.
The event concluded with a stirring rendition of the NCC song by the Nagaland cadets, followed by the singing of the National Anthem, marking the official start of the camp.
