YES Coffee Corner in Kohima launched

Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today launched YES Coffee Corner at V. Kets Ki, 62’C’ Khikha, Riileizou Colony, opposite RBI, Kohima. YES coffee is the products of Yahweh Empower Stature (YES) Agro Park, owned by Vibeilietuo Kets at Gariphema village under Kohima district. YES Agro Park was established in 2018 and now ventures into YES Coffee.

Speaking on the occasion, Rio said that some decades ago in Nagaland, coffee had failed and it was abandoned. But in recent times, people took interest and taken up coffee plantation seriously. He informed that land resources department Nagaland has also set up a coffee corner in many parts of the state and tourists has attracted to the flavour and aroma of Naga coffee. “Nagaland coffee got silver medal and later achieved the gold medal,” Rio said.

He said that department is also aggressively encouraging the coffee farmers in the state. “We should do farming. We should get train and handle everything by our own,” Rio said.

In business, everything is competition, he said and stressed on the need to maintain consistency and patience.

YES Coffee Managing Director, Thejanuo Kets said that this YES Coffee Corner will start operating from November 29 onwards and it will open from 12: 00 noon to 7:00 PM (Monday to Saturday).

Earlier, Letuolie Pienyii, pastor CRC Pezielietsie, Kohima invoked God’s blessing while Ruokuovotuo Pfiisenuo, Naga Idol 2007 presented special number. Nagaland Land Resources Department Advisor G Ikuto Zhimomi, Nagaland Chief Secretary Dr J Alam, Commissioner & Secretary for Land Resources Kevekha Kevin Zehol and several other dignitaries also present at the launching function.

Coffee plantation status in Nagaland
Coffee plantation in Nagaland was first introduced in the 1980s by Nagaland Plantation Crops Development Corporation (NPCDC) in collaboration with Coffee Board of India.

After almost 4 decades, the Department of Land Resources (Nodal department for Coffee in the state), in collaboration with the Coffee Board of India during 2014-15 revived the existing plantations and expanded the area coverage under coffee.

As on date, an area of 10,748.78 Ha (1.03% from the estimated potential area) has been brought under coffee plantation in the entire state under RIDF-XXVIII & amp; PMKSY-WDC, out of an estimated 10,40,100 Ha. area suitable for coffee plantation in the State.

Coffee production as on 2023-24 stands at 48.35 MT of parchment coffee.

To promote coffee drinking culture and to make Nagaland an international coffee destination, the department has supported to establish 16 Nos of Coffee cafés in the state, according to official sources.
