Kohima, November 26 (MExN): The launching programme of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan awareness campaign was held at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on November 25.

Speaking at the programme, the Governor of Nagaland La Ganesan said that this campaign stands as a crucial initiative to combat a pressing issue that affects our society deeply—drug and substance abuse, stated a press release issued by PRO Raj Bhavan, Kohima.

The Governor emphasised that the dangers posed by drugs are immense, but together, our resolve is stronger. “Let us work hand-in-hand to create a future where every individual in our beloved Nagaland can live a life free from the shadows of addiction. Let us ensure that our young generation grows in a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment,” the Governor called.

He said that Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, launched on August 15, 2020, reflects our commitment to addressing the grave menace of substance abuse. It is a nationwide movement dedicated to creating a drug-free India, and it is vital that our state, Nagaland, plays an active role in this mission.

“The importance of this campaign cannot be overstated. It aims to foster awareness, provide education, and offer support to those affected by addiction. By embracing the principles of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, we can work together towards a healthier, more informed and resilient society,” the Governor said.

He said that the drug abuse is not just a personal affliction; it is a societal challenge. It erodes the fabric of our communities, affecting families, children, and our economy. Young people, who represent the future of our nation, are particularly vulnerable to the lure of drugs. The need to protect them and provide opportunities for positive growth and development is paramount.

“Our primary objective with this campaign is to prevent the initiation of drug use through comprehensive education and community engagement. We must address the root causes that lead individuals, especially our youth, down this destructive path. By understanding these causes, we can offer better support and alternatives” the Governor underscored.

Nagaland has a rich cultural heritage and a resilient population. Our youth have immense potential to contribute to the growth and development of the state and the nation. However, to realise this potential, we must equip them with the tools to resist the temptations of substance abuse. This includes creating environments that support healthy lifestyles, offering opportunities for skill development, and fostering a sense of purpose and belonging, the Governor added.

Highlighting on the organisers of the programme, he said that the Brahma Kumaris have always stood for values like purity, peace, and self-empowerment. Through their spiritual teachings and practical approaches, they have consistently worked to build character and inspire positive change.
