Finalisation of tender for upgradation of Dimapur Railway station under process

Dimapur, November 15 (MExN): Nagaland’s lone Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) today urged the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to extend the services of the BG Express to Tuli station. He also called for a review of the current policy regarding the New Railway Line project from Dimapur-Tizit, which connects to the new Tuli, as well as a Route Exploration and Track (RET) survey from Tuli to Tuli Town, both of which have either been kept in abeyance or shelved.

Jamir made these remarks during a review meeting held with Members of Parliament (MPs) representing the jurisdiction of the Tinsukia division of NFR in Dibrugarh on November 14. According to a press release, these issues were part of the four agenda items and remarks made by Jamir at the meeting.

The press release noted that the New Railway Line project from Dimapur-Tizit was put on hold by the Railway Board on September 24, 2019. Further, an RET survey from Tuli to Tuli Town was sanctioned by the Railway Board in 2009-10, and the completed RET survey report was sent to the Railway Board on July 7, 2010. However, this was shelved by the Railway Board on October 21, 2011.

Regarding the upgradation of Dimapur railway station, the meeting was informed that work has been initiated by NFR’s Construction Organisation in connection with the new Dimapur-Shokhuvi-Zubza project. The tender for the upgradation of Dimapur Railway Station has been opened, and the finalisation of the tender is currently under process.

MP Jamir also requested an extension of the stoppage time for three trains at Dimapur railway station, from 7 minutes to 15 minutes. The trains in question are the Jan Shatabdi Express (Jorhat), Nagaland Express (Dibrugarh), and BG Express (Mariani).

NFR GM updates on activities
Meanwhile, a press release from NFR informed that its General Manager, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, conducted the review meeting with the MPs. Dignitaries present at the meeting included Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Cabinet Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways; Rameswar Teli, Rajya Sabha MP from Assam; Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Lok Sabha MP from Assam; and Jamir. The Divisional Railway Manager of Tinsukia, Uttam Prakash, along with senior railway officials from NFR Headquarters, also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, GM Shrivastava provided a brief overview of recent activities and achievements. He highlighted the operations of special trains for festivals and the recent ADRE Exam. He also shared updates on ongoing infrastructure works across NFR.

Additionally, Shrivastava informed the meeting about the installation of QR code machines at ticket counters at 588 stations to enable cashless transactions, as well as the opening of “One Station One Product” stalls at various stations across NFR.

MPs were also briefed on the status of ongoing electrification, doubling, and new line projects in the Northeast, the release added. Shrivastava further noted that the new Tinsukia Railway Station is being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). He also discussed the provision of artificial canopy bridges inside the Hollongapar Wildlife Sanctuary and the AI-based Intrusion Detection System (IDS) for wild elephants.

Lastly, Shrivastava urged the MPs to assist in removing illegal encroachments, closing unauthorised crossings, and closing level crossing gates to improve safety and support various development works.
