KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 2 (MExN): Nagaland Governor La Ganesan presided over a celebration marking the Foundation Days of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Punjab at Raj Bhavan on November 1. The event highlighted the cultural diversity of India as part of the “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” initiative, which aims to promote national integration.
In his address, Governor Ganesan emphasized the importance of this gathering as a reflection of India’s rich tapestry of cultures. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015 on the 140th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat program fosters interactions among people from different states and Union Territories to enhance understanding and appreciation of diverse traditions.
Ganesan expressed his pleasure at having residents from various states in Nagaland, along with students from Kohima Science College, come together to celebrate and learn about each other’s cultures. “Though you may be far from your homelands, we celebrate your states with you here today,” he remarked.
The Governor praised Tamil Nadu for its historical significance and magnificent temples, noting that the Tamil community exemplifies ancient wisdom and vibrant traditions. He highlighted their welcoming nature, quoting the Tamil saying “Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir,” which means “Every town is a hometown, and everyone is kin.”
Turning to Kerala, Ganesan referred to the state as “God’s Own Country,” renowned for its natural beauty and distinctive traditions. He acknowledged the contributions of Malayalis to Nagaland’s educational landscape and celebrated their hospitality.
Regarding Andhra Pradesh, the Governor highlighted the state’s reputation as a cultural hub, noting the warmth and diligence of the Telugu people. He remarked on their significant agricultural contributions, calling Andhra Pradesh “the rice bowl of India,” and celebrated the state’s vibrant festivals that foster community spirit.
For Punjab, Ganesan spoke of the spirited nature of its people, their legendary hospitality, and their colorful folk traditions. He celebrated how Punjabi culture showcases an inseparable blend of courage and richness, making it a vital part of India’s cultural identity.
The Governor also acknowledged the vibrant cultures of other states, including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Chandigarh, Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar, and Pondicherry. Each state, he noted, adds a unique element to India’s cultural mosaic, reinforcing the theme of unity in diversity.
“As we celebrate the Foundation Days of these states, let us remember that what unites us is stronger than what divides us,” Ganesan concluded, highlighting the shared heritage and collective spirit that characterize the nation.
