Army Officer rescues two boys from drowning in Dhansiri River

Dimapur, October 28 (MExN): The lives of two young boys were reportedly rescued from drowning in the Dhansiri River on October 27 by Major Vishavdeep Singh, stationed at Rangapahar Military Station, Dimapur.

A press release from the PRO & Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, informed that the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when the duo, aged 5 to 6 years, were playing near the riverbank but accidentally fell into the deep and muddy water of the river. 

Despite their attempts to stay afloat, the currents pulled them downstream, it said.

Major Attri, who was passing through the area, heard the cries of a woman and the boys calling for help and without any hesitation and disregarding his personal safety, swung into action, the release said. 

Being a trained swimmer, he dove into the river and fought against the currents, sludge, and vegetation to reach the struggling children, managing to bring both boys safely to shore, it added.

The boys suffered no serious injuries and were reunited with their grateful families. Local residents and eyewitnesses lauded the Army officer’s heroism and presence of mind, it added.
