Pfuchatsumia Students’ Union observes Platinum Jubilee

Pfuchatsumia Students Union (PSU) observed its Platinum Jubilee on October 12 at Christ King Higher Secondary School ground, P. Khel, Kohima village, under the theme, ‘Golden Past, Envisioning a Brighter Future.’

Minister of Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along while addressing the ceremony remarked that jubilee is an achievement of the community and a significant milestone. Minister Along said that today many unions and NGOs exist in name. He, however, said that PSU has contributed to the Naga struggle which can be reflected from its history.

Acknowledging the contribution of the community, he mentioned that Kohima village has contributed to the Naga people by preserving their traditional heritage while aiming for a brighter future, on which Minister Along said they have made significant progress and achieved many milestones and pointed out that in a society marred by isms, the essence of community lies in unity.

The Minister expressed that the student body under Kohima village is existing before the formation of the state and commended that their contribution of the people who have formed the union is benefitting for their farsightedness and perseverance.

Speaking of what how we can built the Naga Society, Along added that it will be built by the quality of the Naga people not by building, infrastructure or accessories.

He said educated people are not determined by their wealth or physical stature, but by patience and the ability to persevere, persistency and integrity. The Minister said that our worth should not be determined by the vehicle we drive or the size of our homes, but rather by the importance of academic progress. It is essential to cultivate well-educated and well-mannered individuals.

He further expressed how it is crucial to work together in harmony and adopt a steady approach to achieve our endeavors.

Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome said that the impact of education on the Naga Society has been significant despite its late arrival. He observed that there is a changing perception on the literate people where people in the past has not taken much importance of government jobs but have aspiration for government jobs. Yhome, however, said it was time to awaken and have newer approach.

He also called to change perspective on Government schools as being inferior and asserted that the best teachers can be found in government schools, yet we fail to appreciate their value. “It is time to change our mindset and recognize the importance of these institutions,” he said, and added that even many parents, despite their financial constraints, prefer to send their children to private schools.

The Advisor said that the government has been making lot of investing in the education sector and called for people’s support. He encouraged everyone to take the time to explore and support one another in seeking international job opportunities. He emphasised the importance of sharing experiences and understanding the benefits of these opportunities.

Yhome mentioned that Late Vizolhoulie Rutsa and Late Hievizolie Pienyii as founders of the Union have made phenomenal contributions of the union’s founders and added that their hard work and dedication have undoubtedly uplifted the student community.

Guest of Honor Prasielie Pienyü, Chairman of the Nagaland Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation limited, Chairman of the Pfuchatsumia Khel Council Kelhousetuo Rutsa, Angami Students Union President Khriesamhalie David Mere, and Kohima Village Students Union President Vilalhou Sorhie spoke during the programme.

The PSU 75th Anniversary Jubilee magazine was launched during the event. PSU President Ruokuovituo Robert Mere delivered the presidential address. The programme began with an invocation by Kevidzenyii Mere, Assistant Professor at Shalom Bible Seminary.
