Rehabilitation work for the old road over bridge (RoB) on National Highway 29 Dimapur entered its second day on Wednesday. Speaking with the Project Manger of Innovative Construction (IC) firm, Engineer Litangba Sangtam at the site, he said that hindrances and obstructions have not been met so far and work has commenced smoothly.

The PWD (National Highways) Department has been tasked with overseeing the entire project, estimated to cost Rs 2.6 crores while Innovative Construction has been awarded to carry out the work.

The main task at hand would be the dismantling of two spans of the bridge on the eastern end (near Hotel Sente) which would then be replaced with RE walls, he said. Given the nature of work being undertaken and concerns about public safety, he appealed to the pedestrians to avoid using the bridge during the rehabilitation process.

According to Sangtam, the department had given them an initial time of 6 months for completion of work. “However, they have requested us to expedite the work within 3 months,” he said. Based on the time it would take to put up the new RE walls and the curing time for concrete to set it, he added that it might take more than three months.

Meanwhile, vehicular traffic has been diverted by Dimapur police across a series of major roads including for those heavy vehicles entering from Assam. At main town area, the road from Deluxe Point to Holy Cross Police Point has turned into a one way street.
