KOHIMA, AUGUST 28 (MExN): The Assam Rifles commemorated Women’s Equality Day on August 26 by honoring three distinguished women for their significant contributions to social welfare and women’s empowerment in Nagaland.
A press release from the PRO, HQ IGAR (North), the AR recognized Sano Vamuzo, a Padma Shree Awardee and Advisor of the Naga Mother Association (NMA); Vilanuo Angela Yhome, President of the NMA; and Neibanuo Angami, caretaker of the Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home.
Sano Vamuzo, a highly esteemed social worker with over 35 years of experience advocating for women’s rights and supporting marginalized communities, was acknowledged for her lifelong commitment to women’s welfare. Vilanuo Angela Yhome, who has led the NMA for over 25 years, was celebrated for her impactful work in advancing women’s rights, health, and education. Neibanuo Angami was honored for her more than 21 years of dedicated service to underprivileged children and women at the Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home.
The event highlighted the critical role women play in the socio-economic development of the region and underscored the importance of gender equality. The Assam Rifles, which boasts a significant number of women soldiers, continues to champion women’s rights and strengthen its ties with the local community through such initiatives, the press release stated.
