CHÜMOUKEDIMA, AUGUST 18 (MExN): In a move aimed at bolstering flood management efforts, DC Chümoukedima, Polan John has issued new directives concerning the Chathe River. This is in response to the Water Resources Department of Nagaland’s proposal for a centrally sponsored Flood Management & Broad Area Programme (FMBAP), which is supported by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, RD & GR, New Delhi.
According to a DIPR report, the orders, enacted under Section 41 (C) and Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, are designed to enhance public safety and ensure the effective implementation of the flood management project. The directives stipulate that no individual shall obstruct the Water Resources Department engineers during their work. Additionally, the natural/ standard waterway as demarcated by the Water Resources Department must be maintained at all times, and the designated waterway must remain clear of any encroachment.
Individuals found violating these orders will face punitive action as per the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and other relevant regulations. All relevant authorities—including law enforcement, the Water Resources Department, Chümoukedima Town Council, and the general public—are required to enforce these directives, the DIPR report said. The orders are effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice.
