Peren, August 12 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) today urged all stakeholders, particularly from the district, to recognise the value and opportunities presented by the Government Polytechnic Peren (GPP).

The ZSUN’s appeal came amid reports of zero student enrolment at the institute since its establishment in 2021.
The Morung Express on August 9 reported extensively on the issue, which was first highlighted recently by the Hindustan Times.
According to the union, the ZSUN office recently conducted a constructive meeting with the principal and teaching faculty at GPP to review the array of courses offered and to address the concerning issue of low student enrolment at the institute.

Since its establishment, the GPP Institute has unfortunately struggled with zero enrolment despite offering a diverse range of vocational and technical courses designed to benefit the youth, it said.

The eligibility criteria for admission to the institute are relatively straightforward: students must have completed their 10th or 12th grade with at least 45% marks and must have passed all subjects, it pointed out.

Despite these accessible requirements, the institute has not yet attracted the necessary student numbers to commence full-fledged operations, it added.

The ZSUN further highlighted that for the institute to function effectively and deliver on its mandate, a minimum enrolment of 15-17 students is required.

This critical threshold is essential for the institute to offer its programmes comprehensively and sustain its operations, it noted.
Accordingly, it expressed apprehension that the institute is at ‘serious risk’ of being relocated to another area without adequate enrolment.

This would represent a significant loss to our district and its educational infrastructure, the union asserted.

In light of these challenges, the ZSUN appealed to parents, youths, and students within the district to recognise the value and opportunities presented by the GPP.

This institute represents a vital educational asset within New Peren, offering students a chance to gain skills and qualifications that are crucial for their future careers, it added.

Accordingly, the ZSUN urged all eligible students to consider enrolling in the courses provided by the institute and to make the most of this opportunity to further their education and professional prospects.

“The presence of such an institution within our district is a privilege that should be embraced and supported by the community,” stated a press release from ZSUN President Adaube Hiekha and General Secretary Kibouwi Zeliang.

For any additional information or assistance regarding the enrolment process, do not hesitate to contact any executive member of the union, it added.
