The urban engineering wing under Urban Development department, Nagaland has commenced road repair and maintenance work at  Box Cutting Road, Kohima. Vehicular restrictions along this road have been imposed by Kohima Deputy Commissioner for two days (August 10 & 11) to facilitate the repair work.

The Morung Express, in its July 29 issue, highlighted the deplorable condition of this road, riddled by multiple potholes and creating risks for commuters.

During the joint inspection of the road in and around Kohima by the District Administration, Police, Revenue Officer Kohima, Executive Engineers from Urban, NPWD NH, and NPWD R&B on August 8 last, it decided to lay a cement concrete road at the box cutting site.

“We are trying our level best to maintain this road,” said an official from the urban engineering wing, adding that the repair work is scheduled to be completed by August 11.

The road which was constructed in 2013 is an essential route for light vehicles traveling from Manipur to Dimapur and also provides access to Nagaland Civil Secretariat via Naga Hospital-Tinpati, thereby easing traffic congestion in the state capital Kohima.

Meanwhile, Kohima Deputy Commissioner Kumar, Ramnikant issued a traffic advisory, stating that vehicular traffic restrictions shall be imposed during the repair and maintenance work. Total road closure for all vehicular traffic started today and to continue till August 11. From August 12 to 14, there will be partial road opening for downward vehicular traffic. Alternative route via Ladies Mile road & NHAK-TCP gate is being suggested for vehicular traffic during the road closure period.
