Kohima, August 9 (MExN): In response to the worsening road conditions in Kohima, Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant, IAS, led a team of officials on an inspection of the affected areas along National Highway 29. The inspection team included the Additional SP Kohima, Revenue Officer Kohima, Executive Engineers from Urban, NPWD NH, and NPWD R&B, among other officials, informed a DIPR report.

The inspection focused on key areas, including the sinking zone near the Old KMC dumping site. To prevent further deterioration, the team decided to channelize the water flow from above the road into the drainage system. They also resolved to clear and repair the Jotsoma by-pass road within the next two days.

At the sinking road near the GREF Mandir in Dzüdza Village, Jotsoma, measures were introduced to mitigate the risk. The police will regulate the entry of commercial trucks (HMVs) into Kohima along the National Highway. Trucks will now be parked on a single lane on one side of the four-lane highway, away from the sinking area. This step aims to reduce the load on the compromised section of the road.

To ensure safety, regular patrolling by police personnel on the national highway will be conducted, and a tow truck will be arranged for emergency situations. The NPWD NH department is tasked with clearing drains and carrying out road repairs at the identified sinking zones. The public has been advised to exercise caution while traveling through these areas.

In addition, the team decided to lay a cement concrete road at the box cutting site, with work scheduled for August 10. Vehicular traffic will be suspended on August 10 and 11 to facilitate the repair work, which will be overseen by the Executive Engineer Urban.
