AYO declares non-cooperation to NSCN-K (Khango)

The Angami Youth Organization (AYO) announced “non-cooperation” to the NSCN-K (Khango) as an upshot of an alleged death threat issued to a contractor by the NSCN-K (Khango). The AYO made the announcement, on July 27, following an emergency meeting of its Presidential Council in Kohima.

AYO president Kesosul Christopher Ltu told a press conference that the entire Angami territory will become a “non-cooperation” zone.

“The entire Angami area has been declared as non-cooperation towards the NSCN (K) Khango Group until and unless this matter is addressed,” Ltu said.

The declaration prepared in the Presidential Council meeting included recalling or disassociation of any Angami working in the NSCN-K (Khango).

It said, “All the Angamis working with the Khango Group are hereby asked to disassociate from the group until the matter is resolved.” In this regard, it directed its four affiliate ranges to “act accordingly by getting in touch with their respective range members who belong to the Khango Group.”

According to the AYO, it considered the act of issuing “death penalty/capital punishment,” without any valid reason, to the contractor, who is an Angami, a direct challenge to the entire Angami community.

The declaration was signed by AYO President Kesosul Christopher Ltu, General Secretary Neidilhoutuo Sechii and the leaders of the four AYO affilaiates— Southern Angami Youth Organization President Metekhrielie Mejura, Northern Angami Youth Organization President Khrievolie Zhale, Western Angami Youth Organization President Neitoulie Peseyie and Chakhroma Youth Organization President Seyieneilhou Keyho.

The Presidential Council meeting also reaffirmed a standing resolution of the Angami Public Organisation (APO) adopted in 1993. Ltu said that the 1993 APO resolution declared, “If the various Naga National Political Groups don’t come under one banner, the Angami community and the Angami villages under APO shall not extend any contribution or donation.”

The AYO informed that, on July 20, one individual, who claimed his name was Max, and a member of the finance controller committee of the NSCN-K (Khango), demanded tax from the proprietor of KKB Rülho, threatening him with “capital punishment” if he failed to comply within 15 days.

It recalled that since the higher authority of the NSCN (K) Khango admitted to the issuing of the threat as the doing of their group, AYO sought to know what warranted it.

It added that the AYO extended an olive branch to the NSCN-K (Khango), through the latter’s Angami region, to sit across the table in Kohima for discussion.

However, it said that the invitation for discussion was not responded to positively before the given deadline of July 25, 2024.
