Landslide Strikes Wokha Village ‘B’ Khel, 2 homes damaged

A major landslide has hit Wokha Village ‘B’ Khel near APMC Wokha Village. The mudslide completely destroyed a building owned by Mhonyamo Murry and caused minor damage to the residence of Thungjamo Murry. Mhonyamo Murry’s building suffered severe damage, prompting the family to evacuate by the evening of July 14.

In an interview with media’s, Mhonyamo Murry confirmed that the relevant department and the district administration of Wokha had visited the site of the landslide. The NDRF from Kohima has advised residents living above the landslide to vacate their homes to prevent casualties and ensure their safety.

Meanwhile, TTC Infra, the company handling the ongoing road construction, is aiding in clearing the mudslide. Sanjay, the site in-charge, and Ajay, the General Manager, stated they are exerting additional effort to remove the debris and assist with the damage, despite it exceeding their designated responsibilities. They assured their continued cooperation and commitment to utilising machinery for the smooth progression of the road construction, while also seeking cooperation from the local residents.

It is noted that the ongoing NH2 Wokha road construction is taking place in landslide-prone areas, where retaining and protection walls are currently being constructed by the road construction companies.
