Nagaland: Population Stabilization fortnight to reach all blocks of dist

Kohima, July 12 (MExN): Under the slogan, ‘The New Identity of Vikshit Bharat, Family Planning the Pride of Every Couple’ and under the theme ‘Healthy Timing and Spacing of Pregnancies for Wellbeing of Mother and Child,’ World Population day was held at CMO’s conference hall today along with District Health Society, Department of Health & Family Welfare, NHM.

District Programme officer (RCH/UIP) Dr Khrievilhou spoke on importance of World Population Day & Population Stabilization Fortnight from July 11-24. 

He said under this programme, advocacy and awareness campaigns will be carried out in all the blocks and villages under Kohima district. It will also include Exhibition of Family Planning methods- use of contraceptives and other spacing methods, need for delay in marriage and first child birth, Counseling of clients on the basket of choices and motivation of eligible couples for availing family Planning services such as IUCD & PPIUCD Insertions, Condoms, Tubectomy & Vasectomy including awareness on HIV & AIDS, he further emphasized.

During the on-going advocacy, he said messages such as delaying age at marriage, healthy spacing at birth, post partum family planning, male participation in family planning, post abortion family planning among others should reach the people as part of awareness generation, 

IEC activities of interpersonal communication- Focus Group Discussion will be carried out in selected health units to observe Population Fortnight as basket of Family Planning services including distribution of pamphlets, leaflets and putting up of banners and posters at prominent places in line with New Family Planning Media Campaign, the speaker said. 

CMO, Kohima, Dr Leamnyei Konyak, in his closing remarks said that World Population Day aims to raise awareness about global population issues and their impact on society. He also asserted that this year’s theme highlights the importance of investing in data collection to understand issues, tailor solutions, and drive progress. 

CMO, also spoke on Saarthi on Wheels – Mission Parivar Vikas under Family Planning objectives which aims to bring down the TFR to 2.1 by 2025, to provide access to quality family planning alternatives based on information, reliable services and supplies, to improve contraceptive access by delivering assured services, to spread awareness about the use of contraceptives and family planning, to improve the lives of people in need with large families by raising awareness on not increasing, to introduce Injectable contraceptive methods at Sub-Centre level and to expand sterilization services through the family planning insurance scheme. 

The CMO further informed that the Saarthi Van initiation is fully customised van having IEC devices, family planning commodities, education, information and communication materials. 

Citing on the importance of Observing World Population Stabilization Fortnight by mobilizing and carrying out intensive awareness, Konyak added that all health provider and frontline workers should be accountable and prompt in carrying out the activities. Earlier, the programme was chaired by DPM, Avikali Jakhalu.
