Women team to lead Tseminyu Town Council

A women team will be leading the Urban Local Body (ULB) in respect to Tseminyu Town Council (TTC), which was constituted today.

The women team comprise of five women elected councillors- four from Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) party and one from Independent, who extended support in the formation of TTC. Four each from NDDP and JDU, and one Independent candidate were elected to nine wards of TTC in the recently conducted ULB Election 2024.

Ruth Thong and Sole Tep were unanimously elected as the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson respectively to lead the TTC today at Tseminyu, which was presided over by Tseminyu Deputy Commissioner, Rohit Singh.

“I assure you all that I will sincerely and diligently perform my duty for development of Tseminyu town with transparency and justice for all,” vowed TTC Chairperson Ruth Thong during a felicitation programme of ULB elected councilors, organised by NDPP Tseminyu Region at Town Hall.

I humbly accepted the position of chairperson bestowed upon me by the central party leaders and the elected members, she said and sought cooperation, advice and positive criticism from all the elected ward councillors.

Thong informed that the newly constituted TTC will first focus on improving drainage system in Tseminyu Town.

Deputy Chairperson, Sole Tep thanked the men-folk for giving opportunity to women to serve and work for the community. She assured to work with sincerity and dedication and apply fairness, transparency and accountability in the affairs of the town council.

Former minister R. Khing expressed happiness over the women team, who will be leading the TTC, describing it as history in the making. “You have been elected to serve the public and you are public servant now,” Khing said and asked them to extend their best service to develop Tseminyu town.

Khing also asked them to be dedicated and diligent in their approach and make Tseminyu as a model town council. Kvulo Lorin, Chairman NIDC and Director Tetso College and John Wanth, Convenor Election committee also spoke at the felicitation programme.

The programme was chaired by Benjamin Lorin while welcome address was delivered by Daniel Tep, president NDPP Tseminyu Region. Vote of thanks was proposed by Khwenhile Tep.

Meanwhile, the NDPP Tseminyu Region stated that a notable achievement is the Tseminyu Town Council will be led by “an all-women team for the first time in the history of both the state and the nation.”

“This marks a historic moment for the NDPP Tseminyu Region from Nagaland’s historical district, showcasing their pride in pioneering this all-women leadership in the town council,” it added.
