NEISSR academic orientation program underway 

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 18 (MExN): The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) kick started its academic orientation program STAR (Students Training and Academic Readiness), on January 17, 2024 with Kevichatha Sechu, Vice President of Chakhroma Public Organization as the special guest at the inaugural. 

Addressing the program, Sechu delivered a compelling message, emphasizing that a student’s primary focus should be on education. Drawing from his experience as a community leader, he urged students to grasp opportunities, utilize available resources, and cultivate resourcefulness. As a father, he motivated students by sharing the example of his relationship with his daughter, Miss Nagaland 2023, emphasizing the importance of respecting and supporting freedom of choice. He encouraged students to remain resilient in the face of life’s challenges, emphasizing that everything happens for the good.

NEISSR Vice Principal, Father Lawrence Khing guided students in revisiting the institute’s vision, mission, and core values for holistic development. Fr Khing emphasized the importance of instilling PJI (Peace, Justice, and Integrity) values. 

In his welcome note, Dr Fr C P Anto, Principal of NEISSR. emphasized the necessity of changing societal attitudes and perceptions, emphasizing that effective communication is a key component in meeting the needs of society as professional social workers.

Resource person YomakumbaAo (Alumni) – Associate Programme Manager at Antarang Foundation (Mumbai Based NGO) emphasized the significance and applicability of social work in a hospital environment. He motivated the students to venture outside, explore, and gain knowledge. System Analyst, Francis briefed the ERP system to the students.

The 3-day STAR program will feature insights from dynamic resource persons in various fields of Social Work, including Arhomo C. Ngullie (Alumni) – Medical Social Worker and PRO, CIHSR, Alino S Chishi (Alumni) – Independent Consultant, Social Impact, Promoting Peace & Gender Inclusion, Er Rishav Sethi – Head of Centre, NITI, Francis – System Analyst, NEISSR, and Kishor Dass – Regional Manager, DB Tech.

The program was moderated by Elizabeth Pojar, Assistant Professor.
