The Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) has added an MRI machine to its range of diagnostic imaging tools. The machine, which came at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore, was inaugurated on January 16 by the CIHSR’s resident medical physicist, Dr B Paul Ravindran.
Dr Ravindran said that the installing of the MRI machine was another feather in the cap for the CIHSR. “This is really a game changer for CIHSR,” said Ravindran, who is the Chief Medical Physicist and Principal, North East Regional Multidisciplinary Paramedical Institute (NERMPI), CIHSR. He is also the Chairperson of the College of Medical Physics of India and a former Vice Principal of Allied Health Sciences, CMC, Vellore.
He described the machine, manufactured by General Electric, as a high-end product installed with all the software functionalities, including cardiac imaging. According to him, keeping pace with a constantly evolving technological landscape in the medical field can be challenging for a mission hospital but the CIHSR has been able to demonstrate commendable progress.
While machines and technology in medicine have become indispensable, he added that it cannot come at the cost of the human touch. He urged the hospital staff to cultivate personal connection with the patients for a meaningful and comprehensive healthcare.
As per the CIHSR, the MRI machine was already operational since January 5 and has already attended to 30 cases, including one cardiac scan.
