Opposition-less government is a sign of peace and unity: Rio

Gracing the 3rd day of the Poanglüm Hornbill Festival ongoing at Tuensang town as special guest, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday maintained that having an opposition-less government in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly is a “sign of peace and unity.” 

The Chief Minister stated this while urging the gathering at the festival to be champion warriors in peace and unity. He also said that when the Naga political issue is settled, many developments will follow where investors from abroad are willing to come to Nagaland and invest in developmental activities.

Reflecting on Nagaland’s history and the impact of Christianity and education on its transformation, Rio said Nagas have progressed a lot. He emphasised Nagas’ rights within the Indian Constitution, the significance of showcasing culture and tradition, and the potential for development with political stability.

With Nagaland being called the “Land of Festival,” the Chief Minister called on the gathering to showcase the rich culture, tradition and promote the local products. He added that the last edition of the Hornbill Festival attracted more tourists than any other year. 

On the occasion, the Poanglüm Qui Qui Awards was presented by the Chief Minister. Mongku Yanchu, IPS, received the Highest Excellence award for clearing the IRS exam. Phinjam Newsletter was recognised for 25 years of continuous publication in the Chang Naga dialect, and Chingmei village was honoured as the highest producer of millet in Nagaland.

The host of the programme was Minister for Housing & Mechanical Engineering, P Beshangmongba Chang. The Chief Minister was accompanied by Minister for RD and SIRD, Metsubo Jamir; Advisor Fire & Emergency Services, Home Guards & Civil Defence, S Kiusumew Yimchunger and Commissioner & Secretary, Kesonyu Yhome.
