Kenye urges for expediting Tizu-Zungki Waterways Project in Nagaland

In view of the Union Government ‘Look East Policy,’ Nagaland Power & Parliamentary Affairs Minister KG Kenye has requested the MoPSW to expedite the execution of the National Waterways 101 Tizu-Zungki project in Nagaland. 

The project has been in the pipeline for many years, he highlighted, addressing the 1st Inland Waterways Development Council meeting on January 8 at Cruise Vessel Ganges Queen, Kolkata.

The meeting was organised by the Waterways Authority of India was held under the chairmanship of Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW ) and Ayush in the presence of Shantanu Thakur, MoS, MoPSW and ministers from various states and UTs.

Kenye also projected the necessity and potential of Inland water transport in the state of Nagaland, taking into consideration the landlocked nature of the State and borders with Myanmar.

The Minister also shared on the need to take up Techno Economic feasibility studies for National Waterways 31 Dhansari for Cargo and traffic movement and Doyang Reservoir Dam to promote water tourism.

Other officials from Nagaland who accompanied the minister at the meeting included, Dr Zasekuolie Chusi, Secretary to Government of Nagaland (GoN), Sentiwapang Aier, Additional Secretary to GoN, Myingthungo Ababe Ezung OST Transport and Thomas Y Kiutsangmong DGM, NST.
