NH-2 from Kohima to Mao gate expected to be done in 3 months

The long pending National Highway (NH)-2 road construction project from Kohima to Mao Gate is expected to be completed in 3 months. 

The 26.249-kilometer stretch, often plagued by persistent issues, has lapsed with completion deadlines. The latest is in 3 months, i.e. March 31 next year. Recently, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has also been undertaking ‘routine test’ along the stretch. 

Speaking to The Morung Express, Sudhir Kumar Singh, from a consultant group, CEMOSA, who is undertaking consultancy work in the concerned stretch, informed that the NHIDCL began checking the work this week. 

“NHIDCL team is making enquiry in the last 3 days,” this official said.  “So far there has been no complaint on the quality of workmanship,” he said while referring to the exercise being initiated by the team. 

He informed that the NHIDCL is actively working in this area and have taken note of complaints against some poor quality of work in the past.  The team has come from Dimapur, he informed. 

The NHIDCL has taken sight of some portions of the work and has accordingly directed the contractor to initiate repairing work promptly in the stipulated time. 

Routine tests, the official said are mandatory and informed that some of the basic criteria of work include width of road, quality of black topping among others. He further elaborated that width of the road should be 7 meters and black topping height in two layer should be 50mm. 

He said that for construction of highways, aggregates are critical element for construction, maintenance and rehabilitation of roadway base. 

The official informed that M/S Fortune group based in Orissa, along with local sub contractors, have taken up an agreement to complete the road construction work by March 31, 2024. Singh said there were some issues in the last but he assured that those have been cleared for the two lane project work. 

Updating on the progress of the 26 km road project, he informed that 14 kms are partially completed and out of the 14 kms, the 1st layer of blacktopping for 9 kms has been completed and the 2nd layer is yet to done. 12 kms, he informed are yet to be taken up. 

He further informed that the consultant group, CEMOSA has its field testing laboratory stationed at Kigwema.
