Chiechama Students’ Union celebrates 75th Anniversary

Marking 75 years since its formation in 1948, a two day long 75th Anniversary celebration of Chiechama Students Union (CSU) under the theme “Toward a brighter future” commenced today at Chiechama village in Kohima district. 

Gracing the inaugural session as the special guest, Nagaland’s school education & SCERT advisor Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome emphasized the challenges posed by the pace of literacy in today’s educational landscape. He said that the rapidly evolving nature of technology has significantly changed the dynamics of teaching, making it more challenging to efficiently educate children.

Dr Yhome also underscored the importance of education in the lives of children and appreciated the parents for prioritizing investment in their children’s education. Stressing on the power of education, he said “Only education will set us free.”

Touching on the limited availability of jobs in government sector, he called upon the youth not to feel discourage but to seek alternative employment in private sector.

Informing that Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) have been signed between Japan and Nagaland University to introduce Japanese language, he maintained that such initiative will bring a positive impact in the service sector and open an opportunity to the Naga youth to work in Japan.

‘Adapt good moral values of forefathers’

CSU president Thepfuneizo Metha saluted the vision and contribution of the pioneers and elders in forming the CSU in 1948. He called upon the students to adapt good moral values of forefathers and take education as a stepping stone to succeed in life.

Sharing greetings, Chiechama Village Council chairman Mhalezolie Metha complimented the CSU for attaining 75 years.

He called upon the people to forgive and forget the past misdeeds if any and renew friendship through this celebration.

Angami Students’ Union (ASU) president, Khriesamhalie David Mere lauded the success stories of the CSU in many fields and wished them to grow from strength to strength. Northern Angami Students’ Union (NASU) president Atouzo Kerhiio challenged NASU units to work together and build the younger generation.

CSU 75th anniversary organizing committee member secretary, Vituonyii Victor Dzeyie called for enriching the feeling of oneness and peaceful environment among the community.

Earlier, the inaugural function was chaired by organizing committee convenor Thepfukhrietuo Riipreo. CSU Choir and Asenuo Metha presented special number.

Rev Fr Dr Keduolhou George Dzeyie, principal, St Joseph’s College (Autonomous) Jakhama and Rev Soneiu Metha, Pastor Baptist Church Chiechama pronounced invocation and benediction prayer respectively.

Later, Menuokholie Kire, Joint Director, Higher Education, Nagaland and Dr  Neiphrezo Keditsu, Advisor to Chief Minister and chairman Nagaland Khadi & Village Industries Board graced the academic cum felicitation session and extravaganza nite respectively.

Meanwhile, a debate on “Students are progressing through social media” will take place on December 16 at 10 AM. The valedictory programme will start from 1 PM onwards with Keduosieü Rio, Director, Tourism department, Nagaland as the special guest.
