Faculty Development Prog held in Dimapur Mission Higher Secondary School

Dimapur, December 14 (MExN): A one-day Faculty Development Programme was held at Dimapur Mission Higher Secondary School (DMHSS) with the theme ‘Leadership, Mentoring and Wellness in the Teaching and Learning Process’ on December 12.

The programme was initiated under the guidance of the DMHSS Governing Board, stated a press release received here.

The resource persons were Sashi Wapang, IRS, Additional Commissioner GST, Dimapur Branch and Vanthunglo Murry, Leadership and personality Development Coach, Unity College, Dimapur and Professional Life Coach.

In the first session, Sashi Wapang IRS, spoke on the topic “Nudging Young Minds to a Brighter Future.” He elucidated on the importance of nurturing young minds, emphasising on seven important traits which included working on communication skills, the importance of stepping out of comfort zones and learning to accept failures, financial literacy and awareness, awareness of and promoting our culture and roots, importance of interacting with people from diverse backgrounds, the ability to utilise available resources instead of waiting for perfect conditions. 

He summed up by stating, “Above anything else, we should give God first place in all aspects of our lives.” Making his talk more meaningful with anecdotal references from his own experiences, Sashi Wapang underlined “how even though we live in a world where the crying baby gets the milk, it is pertinent to explore the hidden potential of the less assertive who, more often than not, have the best ideas.”

In the second session Vanthunglo Murry spoke on the topic “Developing Emotional Intelligence for a Positive Student-Teacher Relationship.” The life coach highlighted on the art of flawless communication, active listening, empathy, empowerment in order to be a role model as an educator. She went into the heart of teaching and learning where a genuine love and concern from the teachers’ end would help mould a pupil into a model student, not just in terms of academic prowess but also personality-wise. 

Quoting, “The purpose of our existence is to give back to our society,” she added, “‘love, kindness and trustworthiness’ are the key qualities to become an ideal educator and motivator for a positive student-teacher relationship.” The programme was chaired by Mereninla, Supervisor, and invocation pronounced by Merensola, Chaplain and Counsellor. In her welcome address, Dr Maongkala Longchar, Member, Governing Board, expressed gratitude to the resource persons and hoped the prodding of teachers with truth in love by them would enhance the teacher’s potential. The vote of thanks was pronounced by DMHSS Principal, Alemtushi Imchen, and the programme concluded with benediction by Onenjungla, PGT, English.
