Chümoukedima, December 5 (MExN):   Holding that only a single-minded, determined approach from Prime Minister Narendra Modi can bring an end to the complex Naga issue, the ex-Chief Minister of Nagaland, Dr SC Jamir, has urged him to make the final decision on the Naga political issue in the next two months.

“I will be only repeating myself that before your second term ends — in fact, in the next two months – you can take a final call to bring an end to the Naga issue,” he stated in a letter to PM Modi on December 3.

“The traditional A, B, C belongs to you, that is, the ability to deliver, a balanced approach, and clarity in mind, and also political courage,” added Dr. Jamir, who is also the former Governor of Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat & Odisha.

He further assured the PM that, as someone who joined Naga politics decades ago and has seen so many ups and downs, the latter’s name would be “recorded in golden letters in Naga history if a peace pact is inked now.”

Expressing confidence that the PM would also understand the importance of bringing an end to the pending Naga political issue, Dr Jamir also pointed out that several Naga delegations, including the Gaon Borah Federation and leaders, have also impressed upon bringing an earlier solution.

“The Naga solution will be a true and well-earned feather in your cap as India’s Prime Minister at such a critical juncture of human and our national history of Amritkal,” he added.

He further informed that the Naga peace negotiations started way back in 1997, and he had always raised the issue with the PM during the ongoing negotiations on several occasions.

While the Central government has taken a number of key, result-oriented, and determined actions on the matter since 2014, Dr Jamir said the Nagas are still awaiting a final peace agreement to end the political problem and urged the PM to make the final call.

Meanwhile, he also congratulated PM Modi for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) electoral success in the recently held assembly elections in key central and western Indian states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

The BJP has also performed well in Telangana, showing yet again the pan-India growth and footprints of your developmental works based on the vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,’ he added.
