Postal Week to culminate with financial literacy prog in Dimapur

Four officials from the Nagaland Postal Division, Department of Posts, NE-II Region were felicitated today, on the occasion of the World Post Day which was observed here, at Dimapur Post Office complex.

 

In commemoration of the National Postal Week from October 10 to 13 and the World Post Day, the office of the Postmaster General, Department of Posts, NE-II Region, Dimapur held a press conference cum felicitation programme.

The four officials were recognised with certificates and gift hampers for their outstanding contribution and devotion to their duty. Kekhriezetuo Solo, Postal Assistant, Kohima HO during the COVID-19 crisis in 2020 had volunteered to come down to Dimapur to help in clearing the accumulated mails.

Postman YK Magar from Dimapur Bazaar SO delivered 1992 articles during the current financial year with delivery percentage of 95.6%. Postman Simon Zeliang from Chümoukedima SO delivered 1641 articles in the current with percentage of 100% performance.

M Khentsumew, Branch Post Master, Pungro BO under Kiphire SO opened 1227 IPPB account, 19 Postal/Rural Postal Life Insurance Policies and 96 POSB accounts in the current financial year.

Som Kamei, IPoS, Postmaster General, North East–II in his brief address to the gathering, said that the Department of Posts celebrates National Postal Week every year, starting with World Post Day on October 9, which is the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874. 

He noted the importance of a post office in one’s daily life and such events are also held to create awareness on the different services it offers to the public. He mentioned that the department has set up a new parcel hub in Dimapur and being manned by their own staff now, which was earlier manned by staff from Assam. The Postmaster General expressed optimism that this would increase the work efficiency and cover more areas.

 

The celebration of World Post Day and National Postal Week 2023 for the state of Nagaland has been scheduled as: October 9 – World Post Day, which is being celebrated in Regional Office, Dimapur and Kohima; October 10 – Vittiya Sashaktikaran Diwas, where Dak Community Development Programme will be held in Mokokchung.

Philately Day on October 11, where letter writing competition will be held in Pfutsero. Mails and Parcels Day will be held on October 12 with a meeting with the Bulk Customers Kohima. October 13 will be observed as Antyodaya Diwas, where financial literacy programme will be held in Dimapur MDG. The programme was attended by postal staff from Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Kohima and Kiphire.
