10th Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship 2023

Phukulo Tsuhah from Vineyard School Kohima on Friday bagged the title of the 10th edition of Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship 2023’ held under the aegis of Fountain Club Kohima in collaboration with State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) Nagaland at RCEMPA, Jotsoma.
In final round, Tsuhah correctly spelled the letters- ‘Leitmotif,’ ‘Coprolalia’ and ‘Hibakusha’ to bag the championship title. He took home a cash prize of Rs 80,000 along with trophy and citation, which was handed over by MLA Dr Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhutso during valedictory function.
Leni A Imsong from Minister’s Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School Kohima took the second position and awarded with a cash prize of Rs 60,000. Aiko Kiyala from Vineyard School Kohima and Elijah Ronren Kikon of Pilgrim Higher Secondary School Dimapur were in the 3rd and 4th position and received Rs 40,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
Quarter finalists- Leine Kuotsu of Little Flower Higher Secondary School Kohima, Visweyienu Savi of Loyola Higher Secondary School Jakhama, Rovito Sahu of RDNUMS Kohima and Natalie Murry of Christian Model High School Wokha, received Rs 10,000 each.
Awana Pongen of Rincho Academy, Chümoukedima bagged Young Speller award of Rs. 10,000, which was handed over by Nagaland’s SCERT director Kevirale-u Kerhuo. The 10th edition witnessed 76 participants from 39 schools in six districts of Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Phek, Kohima, Wokha and Zunheboto.
‘Making Spelling bee c’ship a Hornbill Festival event’
Gracing the valedictory function as the special guest, Dr Ato appreciated Fountain Club for organizing the event for a decade. He maintained that spelling bee competition help students to improve cognitive skills, facilitate better learning and reasoning. He felt the need to make this spelling bee as a state event with preliminary round in October and the final round during Hornbill Festival.
Sharing an overview of the Spelling Bee Championship, Dr Zavise Rume, Deputy Director, SCERT Nagaland described it as “Very competitive and really educative.” He stressed on the need to carry forward this event as it facilitate language learning, help improve vocabulary and creative thinking. Dr Rume also stressed on the need to take this Spelling Bee Championship to a greater height in collaboration with British High Commission.
The valedictory function was compered by Sekholu Tetseo. Neikiehienuo Sothu presented special number. Vote of thanks was proposed by Fountain Club chairman Ruokuovikho Chale.
