Kohima: KVSU educational fair guides students toward pursuing their dreams

Featuring 31 stalls, 16 educational institutions, 9 vocational courses, 2 banks and 4 coaching centres, the Kohima Village Students’ Union (KVSU) organised an Educational Fair today at the Kohima Village Council Hall, Kohima with the intent to provide the space for educational institutions to showcase the various kinds of courses they offer as well as for the students to learn about the kind of courses and educational loans they can avail.

Convenor of the Educational Fair, Albert Seluokuolie Rutsa highlighted that the event was organised with the aim to guide the students towards pursuing their dreams, which, he added has been a long felt need while the stalls set by the banks were to assist students to avail educational loans. Some of the stalls also featured artificial intelligence, coaching, music, and more. Overall, the Fair was organised to enable students to make informed decisions about their careers, not only within Kohima but also outside the state and country.

Rutsa further highlighted that owing to the positive response that included the students’ participation, they are also considering expanding their program. He also informed that more than 20 schools participated in the Fair.

Young entrepreneurs share experiences 

During the event, three young entrepreneurs shared their experiences. These include Keneisezo Belho (Ken Bel), Keneisalie Rutsa (Basket Making) and Thejangunuo Linyü (Linyü Accessories). 

Keneisezo Belho, Proprietor of ‘Kenbel’ recalled how he started his business with only Rs 2300 to embark on an eco-conscious entrepreneurial journey by introducing Kenbel Pencils in Nagaland. His childhood passion for business and dream of creating his own pencil brand led him to the innovative idea of making eco-friendly pencils from old newspaper prints. He also encouraged the students not to be afraid to dream big and start small while exhorting that small businesses grow big only if one is dedicated.

Keneisalie Rutsa, a student of class 10 from Christ King Higher Secondary School who earns his own school fees through Basket Making shared his testimony of turning his hobby into a means of livelihood. He said that utilising one’s skills does not only build a strong foundation for themselves but also helps in easing the financial burden of parents.

Thejangunuo Linyü, Proprietor of Linyü Accessories, also highlighted her journey of making jewellery while stating that ‘consistency and patience are very important when it comes to keeping a business running.’

Earlier, President, KVSU, Vilalhou Sorhie chaired the program while Dr. Mhalevilie Sote, Associate Pastor, BRC Kohima said the invocation and Prakash Jason Nayak, CEO, Eduversity Group spoke on Career Mentorship.
