Dimapur, September 23 (MExN): Nagaland is the second State after Andhra Pradesh to implement Teach Tool in the country. This was informed by Thavaseelan K (IAS), Project Director, NECTAR Project on Friday.

The Teach Tool is a standardized classroom observation tool designed by the World Bank that serves as a valuable diagnostic tool to gain a comprehensive understanding of current teaching practices and quality of education inside classrooms.

Under the NEP-The Lighthouse (NECTAR) Project, Leadership for Equity (LFE) has been on board as the technical agency and is supporting the Department of School Education and the World Bank in rolling out the Teach Tool.

The baseline observations data on Teach Tool can be used to further design relevant and effective learning opportunities for the teachers in the state.

A ten-day training of master trainers (Trainers of Teachers) for implementation of Teach Tool under the Nagaland Education Project-The Lighthouse (NECTAR), Department of School Education got underway at Mount Tabor Retreat Centre, Kohima, on September 13. The purpose of this is to build internal capacity for monitoring the quality of teacher-student interactions in the classroom, a release stated here.

Around 400-500 observers from all the 16 districts will be trained to use the Teach Tool and they will mentor other teachers in the coming years. Findings from the Teach Tool will potentially strengthen future Teacher Professional Development (TPD) practices.

Teach Tool is one of the many interventions being implemented under NEP-The Lighthouse (NECTAR) to improve the quality of education, teaching practices, capacity building, and learning environment in government schools across the state.

A total of 37 Trainers of Teachers (ToTs) attached to various Educational Block Resource Centres (EBRCs) within Samagra Shiksha have qualified and been certified. Further, three officials from the Nagaland Core Team, comprising of officials from DoSE and SCERT, and three from the NECTAR team have also qualified and been certified.

Speaking at the valedictory programme on September 22, Commissioner and Secretary, School Education and SCERT, Kevileno Angami challenged the trainees stating, “Let’s light the fire of quality teaching and learning practices in Nagaland, to create effective and safe learning spaces for our children.”

Principal Director, DoSE, and Project Director of NECTAR, also spoke at the programme and encouraged the trainees, stating the importance of their roles in carrying out the objectives of the Teach tool towards improving teaching and learning practices across Nagaland, especially in our Government schools.

The ten-day training for the master trainers (ToTs) will conclude on September 23.
