The new office bearers of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) Manipur State Unit was today administered oath by MLA and Party Secretary General, Achumbemo Kikon and in Kohima.
NPF President Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu had appointed the office bearers the tenure 2024-2028 on the recommendation of Search Committee for Manipur State Unit and the Senior Party functionaries decision to maintain the status quo, and in exercise of the powers conferred under relevant section of the Party’s Constitution.
Speaking on the occasion held at the NPF Central Office in Kohima, Kikon said that the Central office and Search Committee had a herculean task in screening out the ‘best of the best among the many aspirants’ for the post.
The office bearers consist of ex-parliamentarians, ex-bureaucrats, present ministers, MLAs and veteran social workers from various backgrounds.
Stating that the Central Office had a tough time in finalising the list of office bearers, he urged upon them not to take lightly in which the party reposed trust on them “but to shoulder a lot of responsibility.”
“With that responsibility, we can take our people forward and to a greater height,” he said.
New team to take over by January 1, 2024
Kikon said that the present tenure actually should come to an end only in 2024 but the central office, working committee and central executive council had a serious of consultation and finally decided that “the present tenure is cut short by one year” to re strengthen the party.
Otherwise, it should end only in the later part of 2024, he said, adding that the party will be holding a general convention on October 21 in Kohima due to cut is tenure.
The present tenure will continue till December 31, 2023, he said adding that the new team of office bearers will take over by January1, 2024.
The vision and principle of the party should be always in your mind in everything you do, he told the new team adding that the pioneers of the NPF had in mind that a party of this nature (regional party) “will truly represent our people, as well as our aspirations, our culture, our tradition as well as our identity.”
He also told the new team to raise any issue, any concern they have to the central leadership, adding: “We are here to listen to you and also address the grievances you have.”
Manipur State Unit President Awangbow Newmai thanked the committee for reposing their trust to the new team to carry the party responsibility for the tenure 2024-28.
“We shall stand by our party principle and continue to strengthen our party,” he assured.
