Dziesekhrienuo Keretsü becomes first NE member of National Road Safety Council

Dziesekhrienuo Keretsü has been a nominated as member the National Road Safety Council, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH).

Belonging to D Khel, Kohima village, Dziesekhrienuo Keretsü is the first person from Nagaland and the North East to be nominated to the National Road Safety Council. The MoRTH, Government of India issued a notification to this effect on August 7, and was published in the official gazette of Government of India.

Keretsü is the only woman member in the 11 nominated members in the country. As a nominated member, Keretsü will have a tenure of 2 years and will be a part of the National Road Safety Council to guide and prepare all aspects of road safety in the country.

The council advises on all matters pertaining to planning and coordination of policies; standards of safety in the road transport sector; formulates and recommends road safety programmes for implementation by state road safety organisations and state agencies in-charge of road transportation; suggests areas for research and development to improve safety aspects in road transport sector including maintenance of statistics of road accidents and their analysis; and generally oversees and monitors at the central level the road safety measures undertaken by states/union territories.

Keretsü said that she will represent Nagaland and the North East in the council and take up issues of road safety and road transport at the national level. With the improvements in the road connectivity in the state, all aspects related to road safety including safe roads, safe driving and safety awareness would be her priority areas.

She conveyed her gratitude to Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for MoRTH for giving her the opportunity to serve the council.
