Skill training for rural employment evokes positive response in Phek

A three-day long skill training for rural employment under the aegis of Nagaland Khadi & Village Industries Board (NKVIB) in collaboration with Glocal Concepts Nagaland (GCN) at Chizami in Phek district, evoked thunderous response with the participation of 257 enthusiastic youth. A total of 106 youth registered for this training in carpentry, 94 for food processing, 36 for bee keeping and 21 for toilet & laundry soap making.

Gracing the opening ceremony at GM Government High School Chizami, Nagaland’s Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye stressed on the need to adopt a comprehensive strategy to attain economic stability in the state. In the past, he said, our forefathers advocated hard work and trustworthy as the core principle to flourish and build wealth. In this, he called upon the youth not to go after easy money but to work hard and earn in honest way.

He told the trainees to be a reliable person and maintain integrity to succeed in their hunt for business venture. The minister also told the youth to start their enterprises in a humble way and grow steadily.

Further, Kenye called upon the youth to take this skill training as the key foundation to qualify themselves for availing various self employment related schemes and packages being extended by the government.

‘Look beyond government job’
NKVIB Chairman, Dr Neiphrezo Keditsu called upon the educated unemployed youth to change their mentality about too much dependency on government job. He encouraged the youth to look beyond government job as there are many other opportunities in the private sector for livelihood.

He informed that NKVIB has designed this skill training programme to equip and motivate the youth in four disciplines (food processing, bee keeping, carpentry and toilet & laundry soap making) so that in return they (Trainees) give the best products and prosper in their respective venture. He also challenged the trainees to make a success story out of this training programme.

Stating that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is committed towards the holistic growth of the youth, he assured that the government will extend all possible help.

Dr Keditsu also told the youth to apply Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), which is implemented by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). PMEGP is a scheme for providing financial assistance to set up new enterprises.

‘Focus on contemporary skill’
Phek Deputy Commissioner, Kumar Ramnikant called upon the youth to focus on contemporary skill and also modify their skills to meet market demand. Urging the youth to live upto the era of entrepreneurship, he said, “Your seriousness will bring a success story.”

GCN Chief Consultant, Vikas Rao called upon the youth to make the best use of the training programme and come out with their own brand thereafter. He said the idea behind this training programme is to empower the youth to contribute to the state economy. This training was started in 2021 and it had many success stories, he added.

Chizami Village Council Chairman, Kewepelo Tsiihah also spoke on the occasion and thanked the NKVIB for providing opportunity to the youth to upgrade their skills. The programme was chaired by NKVIB joint CEO A. Khekiya Rengma while vote of thanks was proposed by Pfukeduo Sopfu, PS to chairman NKVIB. Similar training also commenced today at Peren town. The programme will continue till August 5.

Meanwhile, two more training programme will take place at Medziphema in Chümoukedima district and Longkhim in Tuensang district from August 9 to 11.
