Soyim Students’ Union celebrates Tsüngremmong

The Soyim Students’ Union (SSU), Ungma village, Mokokchung celebrated Tsüngremmong festival at Yimtsungta Arok Sapang, Ungma village with Imkong L Imchen, Advisor, Information & Public Relation, Soil & Water Conservation the chief guest on August 1. The festival was celebrated on the theme ‘Terajem Nukmen’ which translates as holistic foundation. 

Advisor Imkong L Imchen in his speech reminded the people about the history of Ungma village, stating that it is the “premier and historic village” of the Ao Nagas and said that he appreciates and respects the philosophy of the village.

Appreciating the performances by the young boys and girls at the event, Imchen said, “our culture and tradition is not static but dynamic and it keeps changing.” However, he said that in all the changes, the ethos, the roots and the basics of our culture remains. He further added, “Our culture and tradition is our identity and we need to uphold it through our songs and dances.”

Moatemsu Longkumer, President, SSU welcomed all the participants to the festival while Rarentemjen Jamir, Tatar gave the significance of Tsüngremmong. Various cultural performances were presented by the Ongpangkong Students’ Conference, SSU Kongshir, Kosasanger Pusu Menden Ungma and Soyim Shisaluyimer Telongjem.
