Dimapur, July 25 (MExN): In an effort to foster entrepreneurship and promote digital interventions in the handloom and handicraft sector, NIELIT Kohima organised a comprehensive Entrepreneurship Development Program under their project titled ‘digital intervention on handloom and handicraft sector for livelihood enhancement of artisans of NE States.’
It was held at NIELIT Extension Centre in Dimapur.
The programme witnessed a gathering of 100 participants eager to augment their skills and knowledge in this traditional yet evolving industry, stated a press release received here.
The programme module encompassed a diverse range of topics crucial for entrepreneurial success. The participants received insights and guidance from experts in various fields. The programme boasted an impressive lineup of experts who delivered lectures on Marketing Skills, IT Based Business management skills, Soft Skills, Branding and Advertising, supply chain and logistics, Online transaction and security, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Product Photography, and Packaging Techniques.
Experts from institutions like NIFT and Indian Institute of Packaging Kolkata, along with other institutes from Dimapur, graced the programme.
In its commitment to promoting traditional crafts and modern techniques, conducted a one-month artisanal training programme on Handloom Weaving and Product Development in Dimapur. “The training, enriched with digital intervention, aimed to equip participants with advanced digital skills in the creation of handloom fabrics while preserving the essence of handloom weaving,” the release stated.
During the programme, artisans were introduced to digital design creation using computers and weaving through electronic jacquard. The integration of digital tools allowed the artisans to develop stunning and innovative designs on fabrics, unleashing their creativity to new heights.
A major highlight of the training was the creation of a digital design bank, ensuring the preservation and accessibility of traditional patterns for future use. By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern digital tools, artisans were empowered to meet contemporary market demands while staying true to their heritage. The training not only enhanced their skill set but will also open up new avenues for growth and recognition in the competitive market, it stated.
With NIELIT Kohima’s initiative, the handloom weaving sector in Nagaland is poised to thrive with a perfect blend of tradition and technology, creating a brighter future for these skilled artisans and their craft.
The valedictory programme, held on July 24, marked the culmination of the training. During this event, certificates were awarded to all the participants, recognizing their active participation and successful completion of the programme.
Mughasheli Swu a participant said, “The Entrepreneurship Development Program has been an eye-opening experience for me. I have gained valuable skills and insights that will undoubtedly contribute to the success of my venture in the handloom and handicraft industry.”
