Mokokchung District Court Complex inaugurated

Mokokchung District Court Complex was inaugurated virtually by Justice Sandeep Mehta, Chief Justice of Gauhati High court and High court of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, in the presence of Justice, Kakheto Sema, Portfolio Judge of Mokokchung District and R Ramakrishnan IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Law and Justice on June 16. 

R Ramakrishnan IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Law and Justice, in his speech pointed out that, people prefer customary courts over judiciary because of the quick responses and results. 

He further challenged the judges and all the judiciary officials to use the new infrastructure as a space and opportunity to deliver quick judgement and justice to the people. 

While delivering the portfolio judge’s address, Justice Kakheto Sema mentioned that Nagaland has always held a deep respect for justice and the rule of law. ‘However, it is essential to recognize that robust and well developed judicial infrastructure is the backbone of an efficient and effective legal system,’ he stated.

Sema further stated that the new judicial infrastructure symbolizes more than just physical structures. It represents collective aspirations for a fair, accessible and efficient legal system. He pointed that, the new district court complex stands as a testament of their commitments to upholding justice, protecting rights and fostering social harmony in Nagaland.

In a short speech, Deputy Commissioner, Thsuvisie Phoji, NCS mentioned that the judiciary is one of the main organ of a free and democratic nation and it has played pivotal role in delivering justice andhe envisions that with the new infrastructure, there will be enough space for justice to be delivered, under the umbrella of the new building.

A technical report of the construction was presented by Er Sungti Amer where he mentioned the total estimated cost as Rs 795.58 lakh (Inclusive of sites and services). The additional works included podium for courtroom, construction of lift shaft, construction of borewell and installation of lift machine. Total project cost was Rs 869.34 lakh. The construction of the complex commenced on December 2016 and completed June, 2023.
