Says will put up proposal to upgrade of GHS Hakushangto
Kohima, June 12 (MExN): The Directorate of School Education (DoSE),on June 11, informed that the department has recently posted the requisite number of Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Tuensang and Thangjam to address the issue of shortage of teachers in both schools.
In a clarification issued regarding the ‘admission crisis’ in higher secondary education in the district, the DoSE further informed that a proposal for the upgradation of Government High School, Hakushang to GHSS would be presented for approval to the State Level Education Committee (SLEC) during the forthcoming meeting.
If approved by the SLEC, the department will then need to obtain clearance, approval, or concurrence from the Personnel & Administrative Reforms and Finance Departments for post creation/conversion, and finally obtain Cabinet approval, it said.
The recruitment of PGTs will be conducted by the NPSC, and the entire process is expected to take more than a year, DoSE Principal Director Thavaseelan K stated in a press release.
Meanwhile, the release further elaborated that the Department posted requisite number of PGTs at both the GHSS Tuensang and Thangjam via two notifications dated June 8 and 9.
The rationalisation of PGTs will also be undertaken once the ongoing recruitment process is completed, it said.
The Department also shared that the construction of four new classrooms and major repairs of eight classrooms at GHSS Thangjam will commence soon, as work orders were issued in May.
Additionally, GHSS Tuensang has been selected as the Light House School for Tuensang District under the World Bank-funded NECTAR Project, and multiple infrastructure-related and other interventions will be implemented in the school, it informed.
It must be noted here that on June 6, the Chang Wedoshi Setshang (Chang Students’ Conference) halted the process for Class 11 in the two GHSS, stating that the schools cannot accommodate all the qualified students due to a lack of classrooms and a shortage of teachers.
As per CWS, a total of 780 students have filled out admission forms, while the intake capacity for both schools is only 370 students.
Accordingly, they requested the upgrade of a government high school to a secondary level.
