Kohima, June 12 (MExN): A conference on Emergency Management and Disaster Preparedness was organized by Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) in collaboration with Kigwema Students’ Union (KSU) on June 7 at Kigwema village.
This programme was part of the 75th anniversary year- long celebration of KSU.
Around 500 students from Loyola Higher Secondary school, Jakhama and Japfü Christian College, Kigwema attended the conference.
The Conference on Emergency Management and Disaster Preparedness is a platform for sharing knowledge, experience and discussing strategic and operational level issues for reducing the disaster risks, mitigating climate change and adapting to its impacts.
Addressing the conference, Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe, advisor NSDMA challenged the students that “one must change our outlook towards disaster and must be equipped with in-depth knowledge on how to overcome the obstacle.”
Johnny Ruangmei, Joint Chief Executive Officer, NSDMA talked on the topic “Investing in Resilience and Preparedness.”
He said that the colleges and schools must have a subject on Emergency Management and Disaster Preparedness.
Khrolou Koza Lohe, Assistant Manager (Training & Education), NSDMA spoke on the topic “Community Based Adaptation for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction.” The programme was chaired by Teisovi Thorie, former president KSU. Khrievisa Chale, Vice Chairman, Kigwema Village Council delivered welcome address. Vote of thanks was proposed by Mezhüvi Thorie, president KSU.
