2nd Integrated Health Campaign in India launched at Peren

The 2nd Integrated Health Campaign (IHC) in India was launched today (June 6) for Peren district to deliver better health care services and to control and eliminate various ailments. This is the first of its kind in the whole state of Nagaland, and is also second in the country after Namsai district in Arunachal Pradesh.

Launching the campaign at Peren DC’s Conference Hall, Nagaland’s Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang said that IHC is being launched with an aim to reach out to maximum number of people through timely intervention in order to control, prevent and eradicate diseases.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has startled the world and the world is still struggling to recover from its wide spread devastating effects, especially for a state like Nagaland where health care facilities are poorly equipped,” he said adding that the pandemic has served as an eye-opener for many nations when it comes to health sector and “has taught us a lesson to be prepared for such outbreak of diseases anytime and anywhere.”

Thanking the medical department for making IHC a reality in Peren district, Zeliang hoped that the campaign will greatly benefit the people.

“For any state to grow economically, improvement of human resource index or human capital index is a must, and these can be achieved only when our health care system improves, and sufficiently cater to the medical needs of the people,” he said.

He hoped that the IHC will greatly alleviate the problems faced by people from far flung areas and those with little or no access to medical facility and help prevent and eliminate various ailments at the right time.

The success of this program will be determined by the optimum utilization of program by the stakeholders, he said, adding this will be possible only when all concerned work sincerely as a team with commitment to serve the people.

Commissioner & Secretary for Health & Family Welfare, Y Kikheto Sema highlighted that the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, GoI has directed all the states to start IHC & Comprehensive Health Campaign of Namsai model.

Accordingly, the state medical department selected Peren district for IHC in Nagaland. The IHC will be carried out in coordination with the district administration, village councils, line departments and medical department.

During IHC, the Health & Family Welfare department shall cover RCH, TB, Hepatitis B and C, Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure, Anemia, HIV, Syphilis and linkage to treatment facilities, he said.

The development partners like SETU, PATH, SHARE India and AHANA shall be involved both in service delivery and also in sponsoring & supporting different events of specific areas of concern.

Other partners of IHC include National AIDS Control Organization, Nagaland State AIDS Control Society and National Health Mission, Nagaland.

The main target group would be 15 to 50 years of age which is also the reproductive active age group, pregnant women and people with High Risk Behaviors who are vulnerable to various preventable infections.

Kikheto informed that IHC will be covering 49 villages in Peren district, 13 at Athibung Block, 18 at Jalukie Block, 8 under Peren Block and 10 under Tening Block. These villages were selected on the basis of some specific health indicators among the vulnerable age group, he said.

“The state government is committed to provide affordable, accessible health care to all its citizens & we are working towards that direction,” he said and appealed all the stake holders to cooperate with the department.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Peren Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Limatula while vote of thanks was proposed by NSACS project director, Dr Akuo Sorhie.
