Kohima: Need to understand impact of climate threat

Kohima 9 AC marked observed World Environment Day by organising a plantation drive at Heritage, DC Bungalow on June 5. 

MLA Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhütso spoke on the need to understand the impact of climate threat in the context of the present scenario and appealed to people to live sustainably by ‘choosing cleaner and greener lifestyles.’ He urged that the people should reconsider and re-evaluate on the roles they were playing in bringing environmentally friendly changes.

Rhutso also to called for action from individuals to protect the environment and at the same time stressed on practicing environmental-friendly habits starting from reducing waste starting from homes and schools and shared that if people came together towards a common ‘goal’ which was to protect the biodiversity, changes in the environment was possible.

Short speeches were presented by ICAR (North), Maj General Vikas Lakhera, students of G Rio School, Fernwood School and SPG, Net Zero Fellow, Virosanuo Solo followed by a special number from Beanstalk school choir.

The environment day was organised in collaboration with T Khel Youth Organisation (TYO), the Department of Land Resources and Forest department and Assam rifles and about 10,000 tree saplings were distributed for the plantation drive.
