DIMAPUR, MAY 23 (MExN): The State Police Nodal officer and IG Range, Limasunep Jamir today informed that 70 cases were registered in Nagaland during the State Assembly Elections 2023. He said that 81 persons were arrested; chargesheets were filed against 7; and investigation is ongoing against 61 persons.
This was stated during a meeting to review the status of all criminal cases registered during the last General Election 2023 to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly which was held in the office chamber of the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland on May 22.
The meeting was chaired by the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar, IAS. The meeting was attended by State Police Nodal officer and IG range, Limasunep Jamir; R Khezhie, Additional CEO; Awa Lorin, Joint CEO; Sharon Longchari, Joint CEO; Alila Chang, Deputy CEO; and Toshimeren, Assistant CEO.
The main purpose of the meeting was not only to review the status of election related criminal cases but to also ensure that active follow-up action continues on such cases even after the completion of theelection process. It was discussed that Election Commission of India also keeps a close tab on any such cases registered and to ensure that folow-up action is taken up to act as a deterrent for any future election and poll related criminal activities.
All the districts would be regularly sending monthly reports on the status of action taken report of criminal cases registered during the last General Election 2023 to be reviewed by the office of the Chief Electoral officer and Election Commission of India.
