‘Teachers should set example to prove govt schools can do well’

Everyone play different roles in building the foundation of children, Dr Kevi Rio, Joint Missions Director, Samagra Shiksha, Nagaland and asking teachers to keep doing their best to mould the students while addressing the School Management Committee (SMC) Day of Government Primary School for Children With Special Needs, Lerie, Kohima on May 22.

‘Teachers should set examples to shift the paradigm and mentality that private schools perform better that government schools but prove that government schools can also do well,’ he maintained. The speaker opined that the School Education Department is doing their best and introducing best practices and training for the same.

Adding that the department comes under scanner for many things, he said with introduction of Samagra Shiksha, the government is trying to reach the last point of the communities.

During the programme, Dr Rio observed that the school had shortage of classrooms which was also hampering classroom teaching and learning. In this regard, he assured to take up the matter and that by next year, a building on the upper floor will become operational for use. ‘Even if infrastructure was well, only if the management and teachers are good, the school will progress to bring transformation in the school and community,’ he stated. 

Chairperson, SMC, Meduhele Solo speaking on behalf of the Committee said the Nagaland Communitization of Public Institutions and Services Act, 2002 is one of the most important pieces of legislation in the history of schools. She assured that the SMC will continue to help in whatever ways possible. Solo meanwhile said the committee and concerned members will pursue school upgradation.

The school Teacher In-charge Kedivi Mekro also spoke during the function. The students of the school, CWSN pupils presented songs and the programme was chaired by Tepuchano Kikhi.
