WHITE FLAG: Community solidarity amid clashes

Kohima, May 16 (MExN): Amid the recent clashes between  different communities since May 3, a heartening display of unity and goodwill has emerged H Wajang village in Chandel district of Manipur, maintained the Indian Army on Monday. 

One community has taken the initiative to showcase a white flag, symbolising “reassurance, peace, and harmony, bridging the divide between the two groups,” the PRO Defence Kohima stated in a press release. 

While the tensions between the Meiteis and Kukis had caused distress and raised concerns about the harmonious coexistence of different communities, the display of the white flag in H Wajang has acted as a catalyst for resolving the differences and promoting understanding, it said.  

As per the release, multiple community meetings were organised, fostering a sense of bonhomie and encouraging open dialogues between the representatives two communities, provided an opportunity for to voice their concerns and aspirations, and paving the way for reconciliation and peaceful cohabitation.  During these gatherings, firm commitment for maintaining peace and harmony in the region was affirmed by both communities, it maintained, adding that the assurances given by each side has been instrumental in defusing tensions and restoring a sense of security among the residents of Pallel.

No incidents have been reported in the area so far and it has been peaceful, the PRO Defence underscored. 

The act of displaying the white flag serves as a powerful symbol of reassurance, conveying the message of peace and harmony to all members of the community and collective willingness to put aside differences and work towards mutual understanding and respect, it said. 

It communicates a message of unity and solidarity, demonstrating that peace can triumph over discord, it added. 

Accordingly, the release further encouraged the local administration and community leaders encouraged to provide support and guidance to sustain the momentum generated by this positive development.

 By working together, the Meitei and Kuki communities can foster an environment that celebrates diversity, promotes peaceful coexistence, and builds a stronger, more united Manipur, it added.
