Local Migrant Workers: The Mokokchung Story

Mokokchung, May 10 (MExN): The bi-monthly inter-departmental seminar of Fazl Ali College (FAC), Mokokchung was held at its conference hall on May 9. 

 

 

 

The college stated in an update that Dr Limasenla Jamir, Asst Professor, Department of Sociology, FAC was the paper presenter. She spoke on the topic ‘Local Migrant Workers: The Mokokchung Story.’ 

In her paper, she talked about rural-urban migration in Nagaland and focused on who are the local migrant workers in Mokokchung. She mentioned that the local migrant workers in Mokokchung are mostly from the seven tribes of eastern Nagaland.

She also highlighted the works the local migrant workers were engaged in which included the construction sector, agricultural sector, leisure and hospitality sector and domestic service sector. Some of the problems faced by the local migrant workers were also highlighted during the presentation.

The seminar was moderated by Lunthula Quinker and the rapporteur was Menuhole Savi, both Asst Prof.from the Department of Sociology, FAC. The concluding remarks were given by Dr Aotemshi, Member, Seminar Committee, FAC.
