Observing the gradual waning of traditional method of weaving which Naga women are very good at, the Nagaland Minister for Women Resource Development & Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse has emphasised on the need to revive it.
She highlighted this concern at the thanksgiving programme organised by Kiruphema General Council (Peducha, Kiruphema Basa and Kiruphema Bawe) at Peducha Village Council Hall on May 6.
Kruse emphasised on the importance towards reviving the traditional weaving towards large scale production through use of modern machineries. “This, in turn would keep alive our tradition of weaving as well as improve our economy,” said Kruse.
She observed how Nagas own traditional attires today are being woven by women from outside the state and is being sold in the markets. She highlighted in brief the goals and purpose of the Women Resource Department and Horticulture which are mainly to help women towards self sustenance by improving the source of livelihood.
Noting the vibrant flower sales along the National Highway at Sechü Zubza by the womenfolk, Kruse informed that plans are on the pipeline to construct permanent marketing sheds to enable women farmers and flower growers of the Western Angami areas to do business.
She also informed that flower seeds and vegetables are available for those interested in the Horticulture department.
Meanwhile, she thanked the people of Kiruphema for their unwavering support and help extended towards her victory. She also expressed her gratitude to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for his concern and constant support, and all NDPP party ranks and files.
“This win is the first step of the journey ahead of us,” said Kruse and assured she will strive towards whatever is possible from her end to uplift the people. “Through unity we can do and achieve greater things in the future,” said Kruse.
Pfülhouzhüno Visienyü, Chairperson, Kiruphema Women Organisation congratulated Kruse for creating history by being the first woman Cabinet Minister in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. Attributing this feat to God, she said, “It is the handiwork of the Almighty.”
Visienyü also stated how women of today are just, if not, more productive as men in almost every area of life, and making significant contributions that are changing the society.
Congratulating Kruse, Chairman of the three villages, Kiruphema Bawe Council, Kiruphema Basa Council and Peducha Village Council expressed confidence that she will fulfill the much needed change not only in Western Angami but the Nagas as a whole.
They also highlighted some urgent basic requirements in the area like good roads, health centres, farmers educational tour etc, and expressed hope that in due course of time, the aspirations of the people would be fulfilled.
The programme was chaired by Vichülie Dolie, Chairman Kiruphema General Council and invocation offered by Pecüvilie Kruneilie, Pastor Peducha Baptist Church.
