Dimapur fire incident: NCD appeals for extending relief

Dimapur, April 11 (MExN): The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) today appealed Dimapur District Administration, Civil Societies, and NGOs and well wishers to extend relief to the families of fire incident at Burma Camp’s East Block, Dimapur on April 9. 

The fire incident claimed one life and injured another, besides causing extensive damage to property estimated at around 1 crore. 

As per an official estimate, around 900 people (260 families) were affected by the fire incident.

The fire victim families are now living in the open ground now, the NCD stated, after a ground visit to the site on Monday. 

A press release from the NCD also informed that another fire incident occur at the Old Naga Cemetery and its team visited both sites.

As per the report of the NCD team, the fire broke out in Old Naga Cemetery was done by unknown persons. Whether it was caused by  straying persons or those cleaning their beloved tombs on Easter Sunday morning is not known, the release said. 

The team also reported that due to fire some of the epitaph/woods written on the memorial stones and marbles were burned black, it noted. 

Accordingly, the team advised the cemetery chowkidar to be watchful so that such fire incident does not re-occur, it added. 

The NCD team also visited the construction project, Elevated Prayer Hall being undertaken by the Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur and saw each ongoing progress at the cemetery. 

Thereafter, the team proceeded to meet fire victim families in Burma Camp and donated a small relief, Rs 10,000, added the release issued by NCD General Secretary LK Peter Anal and Vice President, Holuto Aye

The NCD Vice President and GK Rengma, Vice President (CB) also advised the victim families to be careful in future about fire as it occurs mostly due to carelessness, the release added.
