The Konyak community in state’s capital Kohima celebrated its premier festival Aoleang with much pomp and traditional gaiety at Naga Heritage village Kisama on April 4.
Gracing the festival as the special guest, Nagaland Tourism & Higher Education, Minister Temjen Imna Along called for Naga unity. The younger generation of the Nagas wants to live a united Nagaland, he said adding, “The way we do and think may be different but we are one people.”
Stating that Aoleang festival is not just the festival of the Konyak tribe but a festival of all Nagas, he said “Let us look forward for the united Nagaland, for inclusive Nagaland and journey together not exclusively but build each other, help each other, suggest each other and commit for each other.”
We talk about our rights but we are not inclusive, Along said and stressed on the need to aspire for togetherness.
R Tsapikiu Sangtam, President ENPO also addressed the celebration. A Nyamnyei Konyak, MLA talked on the significance of Aoleang. L Nyamnyei Konyak also spoke at the programme.
Earlier, Rev H Moba, Sr Pastor Kohima Konyak Baptist Church invoked God’s blessing while welcome address was delivered by Konyak Union Kohima, President H Angnyei Konyak.
The celebration witnessed cultural presentation from Chen Area, Mon Circle and Tobu Sheko Khong. Special number was presented by Phangmai Ükhung. Vote of thanks was proposed by Konyak Union Kohima vice president Jeiang.
The festival was hosted by Mopong-Hongkong Union Kohima and organized by Konyak Union Kohima.
