Mokokchung, March 30 (MExN): The Ao Senden today lauded the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) for the repealing the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2001 on March 28 while urging for inclusion of representatives from all the Naga Hohos “as and when” a new bill is drafted.
This was among the resolutions passed during a consultative meeting called bythe Ao Senden in Mokokchung on March 29 to discussed the issues related with the elections to urban local bodies.
The Ao Senden expressed gratitude to the NLA, on behalf of the Nagas, for “considering the voice and the opinion of the Nagas,” the meeting resolved.
It also resolved to write a letter of petition to NLA demanding for selection of representatives from all the Naga Hohos for advisory and consultations, as and when” the NLA drafts a new bill on the Nagaland Municipal Act.
The meeting further resolved that if the Nagaland Government decides to hold ULB elections in the future infringing on the Article 371 (A) and rights of the people, such elections would be prohibited in Ao areas.
Further, till the drafting and enactment of new Municipal Act, the meeting resolved not to allow selection of Advisor/Committee/Councilor in within the Ao jurisdiction.
