The delegation led by CT Jamir, Sr Advocate, President, HBA apprised the Governor about the issue of separate High Court for the state of Nagaland that has been pending since statehood. ‘It is made clear that the separate High Court issue cannot be kept pending by clubbing it with other issues, as the same is a constitutional mandate under Article 214 of the Constitution of India, according to the Association,’ it stated.

The Governor was also apprised that with or without the completion of the ongoing High Court Complex construction, the infrastructure is already in place due to the full cooperation received from the Chief Minister and his colleagues. On the issue of the appointment of Advocate General for the State of Nagaland from amongst the local lawyers practicing within the state, the Governor shared the common concern that the Advocate General of the State should be from amongst the qualified local lawyers stationed in Nagaland.

The Bar Association also assured full cooperation at any given point, should the involvement of the Bar be required, it added.
